3GRACE TECHNICAL NOTE
Automatic monitoring
A self-test GFCI includes a monitoring function that checks its protection mechanism. The indicator pattern and response to a detected fault depend on the model. Read the model instructions before interpreting a light or attempting to reset the device.
Keep the routine test
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends testing GFCIs after installation, at least monthly and after a power failure, following the manufacturer’s instructions. An automatic monitoring feature does not remove that guidance.
When the test does not behave as expected
If TEST does not interrupt power, or RESET does not restore the expected operation, stop using the affected outlet and have a qualified electrician assess the device and wiring. Do not repeatedly reset or bypass the protective function.
Information to send with a support request
Record the exact model, the indicator behavior, what happens when TEST is pressed, and whether the problem followed installation or a power interruption. Request the matching installation instructions from the product page. Do not open or alter an energized device to collect information.
