TR — Tamper Resistant
TR identifies tamper resistance at the receptacle openings. It is a feature to check on the exact model and product marking, rather than an assumption to make from the product family or face color.
WR — Weather Resistant
WR identifies weather-resistant construction. The designation is separate from TR and from ground-fault protection. UL documents these as distinct markings, and a product may combine more than one function.
The installation is a complete system
WR does not describe every aspect of an outdoor installation. The device, box, cover, mounting location and wiring must be selected together under the product instructions and locally adopted requirements. Do not treat WR as a general waterproof or submersion rating.
